Six Circleville Middle School students – Devin Gray (8th), Kaylah Huggins (8th), Addy Powers (7th), Amelia Tarbill (7th), Lucas Davis (7th), and Ali Ferrell (7th) – have qualified for the regional Power of the Pen competition.

Recently, Circleville Middle School students hosted 15 participating schools virtually for the January 30th district competition sponsored by the Circleville City School Foundation and the Vinton County National Bank, a member of the VCNB Family.

Founded in 1986, Power of the Pen is an interscholastic writing competition for 7th and 8th graders in the state of Ohio to showcase their writing skills as artistic expression. Because the ideas, dreams and beliefs of today’s youth form the foundation of tomorrow’s communities in Ohio, Power of the Pen is dedicated to helping young people find and develop a creative voice that is uniquely their own.

The program’s aim is to positively impact academic achievement overall. Power of the Pen does so by providing mentor texts of excellent student writing that will serve as models for middle school students throughout Ohio this year. More than 3,000 students will compete directly in a Power of the Pen tournament each year.

These six middle school writers will next compete on March 20th for the South-Central Regional Tournament, hosted by Ann Simpson Davis Middle School.

Congratulations to these outstanding Tigers and their advisors Mrs. Wallace and Mrs. Valentine!
