Voluntary, controlled practices to be permissible June 1st

Athletic release regarding voluntary, controlled practices

After a near 3-month hiatus from athletic events, practices, and training on campus, Circleville City Schools will begin a controlled return to training, for most groups, effective June 1st. This will be in effect for grade 9-12 athletics under the guidance provided by local health officials, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA), and the Ohio Department of Health. Grade 7 and 8 summer athletic conditioning and team organized practices will resume at a later date, and coaches will be in contact.

Circleville City Schools and the Circleville Athletic Department supports the OHSAA’s statement from last week as sports “is essential to the physical and mental well-being of student-athletes in grades 7-12 to return to physical activity and build team relationships with their peers and coaches.” However, students and coaches will be following proper health department protocols and safety measures as to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and limit possibilities for exposure.

The three phases provided by the OHSAA and ODH guidance regarding such safety precautions and protocols can be found at the links below. Please take the time to review this guidance with your athlete, and our coaches will follow up regarding team specific measures for student safety.  Coaches will be providing specific times and locations of approved training sessions.

Please note that given the seriousness of the times, team organized functions and training sessions are not mandatory and students can continue working out remotely from home, if families choose to do so. We look forward to having students back on campus, but understand that we must all do our part to stay safe.
