CHS Alumni Association donates to High School Mock Trial program

Circleville High School Alumni Association president Casey Lockard, alumni representative Terri Carter, student Hannah Kegley, student Anthony Fauver, student Caleb Morgan, & Mock Trial adviser Mr. Hamman.

On Tuesday, October 15th the Circleville High School Alumni Association awarded the high school Mock Trial program a financial award in the amount of $365 to support program operations for the 2019-2020 school year.

The alumni association’s financial gift, made possible through the support of our members, will cover the organization’s membership in the Ohio Center for Law Related Education, the 2019-2020 Ohio Mock Trial Case File, and competition registration.
Mock Trial at Circleville High School offers an interactive approach to learning about government and how our legal system functions.

Guided by teachers and volunteer legal advisers, students participate in original, unscripted simulated trials written by attorneys. High school students argue both sides of the case in real courtrooms across the state and each student is assigned a role in the case such as plaintiff, defendant, prosecutor, defense attorney, and witness among others.

As of October 15th, the group has 19 members (up seven from last year) enrolled as meetings are already under way in preparation for its January 2020 simulated court case. The 2020 Ohio Mock Trial Case, Rory Maldonado v. Varga, et al., the students will study examines the First Amendment right to free speech.
