RED CUP RULE AT LUNCHTIME INITIATED
At lunchtime we have started using the "red cup" rule towards the last several
minutes of the lunch period. When a red cup is placed on the table, a "no talking"
time starts to help concentrate on finishing lunch, leaving a clean area and creating
an orderly dismissal back to class. Children have the entire thirty-minute period to
eat. We could use volunteers from 11:55 to 12:55 in the cafeteria, any day that
you are available.

TWO HOUR DELAY
If weather conditions are such that a two-hour delay is needed, the following occurs:
1. The message is called in to the local radio and television stations.
2. The school doors open at 10:10, and school begins at 10:40.
3. The bus will pick up your child two hours later than the normal time.
4. Breakfast will not be served at school.
5. School will dismiss at the normal 3:10 time.

BEHAVIOR SYSTEM
As you are aware, we are trying to teach children to be responsible for their own actions.
Every teacher uses the color behavior system, every day. The goal is to "stay on green."
Many parents reward their child at home for being on green or make a goal for the week
or month to be on green for so many days, then reward the child. Every child gets a brand
new start everyday.
Green: Good, and what is expected
Yellow: A warning has been given, and the child moves a clip or card to yellow.
Orange: A timeout period is given, and the child moves a clip or card to orange.
Blue: Loss of recess(es), and the child moves a clip or card to blue.
Red: Child is sent to the principal. A form is completed by the teacher and shared with
the parent. Often, a conference with the parent or phone call to the parent is done.

Please keep practicing with your child at home how to tie shoes, button or zip coats and
other similar skills. We must focus on the reading, writing and math standards at school!
