TIPS AND ACTIVITIES FOR PARENTS FROM THE OHIO STANDARDS
FOR KINDERGARTEN
1. Pick a story that has repeat phrases. Your child will learn the
repeated phrase and have fun joining in with you each time it
appears in the story.
2. Encourage family members and friends to give books to your
child as presents for birthdays and other occasions.
3. Teach your child the names of objects in stores.
4. Introduce new words when you share a conversation with
your child over mealtime or other times.
5. Read aloud to your child everyday for at least fifteen minutes.
6. As you read a story or poem, ask your child to listen for and say
the words that begin with the same sound. Then have him or her
say another word that begins with the sound.

READING SIGHT WORD LIST
As you can see, at the top of this newsletter, your child' goal for
November and December is to recognize at least 8 of the 25
sight words we use in kindergarten.
