In the Circleville City School District, curriculum
maps allow four separate elementary schools to maintain vertical and
horizontal consistency in the curriculum. The curriculum maps also allow
for teachers to align teaching and learning among grade levels. This
alignment is very important and much time is devoted to maintaining
this effort and making improvements. These maps share what students
are expected to know, understand and be able to do in each grade level
or class.
Curriculum maps for English or language arts, math, science and social studies along with non-core subject areas are posted and can be found using the links below. They will clearly show the transition we have made to Ohio academic content standards based education for all students. Currently, maps are undergoing an update and a “next step” process of finding “power standards” in each subject. Power standards are the standards most frequently tested on the state test, the standards that are necessary to know to be prepared for the next grade level and standards that are important to have throughout life. We are determining these concepts, skills and processes now in order to make them a priority in the teaching and learning process. Please remember the changes we are making this year define our maps as “works in progress” and the starting point or foundation for improvement. Also, only certain maps are available as some classes follow pre-approved syllabi or program courses of study. As the curriculum work continues, maps will be updated and re-posted. Assessments are also under review at this time, resulting in few maps listing the assessment choices or plans. Curriculum maps from teachers of Circleville City Schools are living documents that are evidence of how we maintain a continuous improvement cycle for what happens in the classroom. Striving to clarify expectations for students and maintain clear teaching guides for all teachers are district priorities.
