Course of Study II

Level II:

   1. Phlebotomy- Student will become certified in (Phlebotomy) drawing blood upon successful completion of this course. Students must complete class work, labs and 16 hours of clinical at a local lab with at least 10 successful sticks. Students must attend 90% of the class time (miss less than 3 days) and a final grade of 80% or greater.

   2. EKG- Students will learn to perform EKG's and internet fatal EKG rhythms. Successful completion requires 8 hours of EKG clinical with performance of at least 6 EKG's attendance of at least 90% of the class time (miss less than 3 days) and a final grade of 80% or greater.

   3. Patient Care Skills- Students will learn a wide variety of skills including sterile technique, dressing changes, suture removal and specimen collection. Successful completion requires attendance of 90% of the class (miss less than 5 days of class), successful skill check-offs and passing the course with 80% or greater. Students not earning EKG, Phlebotomy, or Pt Care Skills certificate will not receive their PCT Certificate.

   4. Externships- All students are required to participate in an unpaid externship. During the externship, the student will further their education and patient care skills. Successful completion requires attendance of at least 100 hours, and positive evaluations from instructor and preceptor. Eligibility requirements: Miss no more than 13 days of the school year, earn patient care skills, EKG and Phlebotomy certificate and have no disciplinary problems. Students must complete 100 hours at an assigned externship site to earn additional credit hour of course. Students must also receive a grade of 80% or greater to receive PCT certificate and extra credit hour. Students, who are not eligible for extenships will report to their home school study hall, daily, will receive a significantly lower grade and no credit for externships.

   5. Senior Project- All seniors are required to complete this portion of the program to receive credit for the class. Students are required to do a project that includes community service hours, presentations and portfolios.
