Nine Weeks Focus	Chapters 1-4, pages 4 – 117, Scientific Method, Matter, Minerals, and Rocks Review of Metric System (not in text) Related Wild Sites activities *To temporarily address the problem of focused textbook content, 8^th grade teachers are responsible for teaching 6, 7, and 8^th grade indicators of the Earth and Space Sciences standard during the 8^th grade year. This plan will be revised before the year-end state achievement tests in science are implemented.
Skills/Standards	Earth and Space Sciences (6^th grade indicators) 1. Describe the rock cycle and explain that there are sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks that have distinct properties (e.g., color, texture) and are formed in different ways. 2. Explain that rocks are made of one or more minerals. 3. Identify minerals by their characteristic properties. Life Sciences Physical Sciences (6^th Grade indicator) 1. Explain that equal volumes of different substances usually have different masses. Science and Technology Scientific Inquiry 1. Choose the appropriate tools or instruments and use relevant safety procedures to complete scientific investigations. 2.
