While at West Point Brandon spent his summers in training.
He completed Airborne School, Air Assault School,
Mortar School, and Tank Training School. Immediately
following graduation he reported to Ft. Benning Georgia
to complete the Officer Basic Course. He remained
at Ft. Benning and went directly into Ranger School. He
was one of the 71 candidates (of 200 who began the training)
who completed the training without failing any component.
Brandon then was assigned to Ft. Lewis Washington to begin
training a brand new unit of soldiers who are assigned
to man the Army's Stryker force. The Stryker is
similar to an armored hummer that has guns and a turret
attached. The big gun can be either a 50-caliber
machine gun or grenade launcher. During this period
Brandon's platoon was recognized for outstanding field
performance, and Brandon was selected to return to Ft.
Benning to train as a recognisance officer. He then
returned to Ft. Lewis and now commands a platoon of scouts.
On October 16, Brandon was married to Virginia West. They
live in Lacey Washington, a town near Ft. Lewis.
Brandon left on April 7th to begin his duty assignment
in the
Middle East.
